Uganda has eventually welcomed over 50 Afghanistan refuges into the country and viewers
called them evacuees and refugees as sort. But the citizens are not happy at all about the VIP way the government treated them.
“The Government of the Republic of Uganda this morning received fifty one (51) evacuees from
Afghanistan refuges who arrived aboard a privately chartered flight at the Entebbe International Airport.” Part of the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
The new evacuees were transported to Imperial Resort Beach Hotel Entebbe. However, this upset
many Ugandans because this treatment was special to outsiders yet the citizens are in a bad state.
They also wondered why refugees from neighboring countries such as DRC and South Sudan are
not given such preferential treatment in Uganda.
These were however reminded that it’s the US funding the Afghan refugees and not the Ugandan
government so the funds are fully available to execute this. This still caused a more stirred uproar from Ugandans saying that still, the other refuges are funded by UNHCR and other bodies, but they are not treated like Afghans.
We can not ascertain why this all fracas had to happen, but what we know is that Ugandans are bitter about this. Uganda is known for being a home of refuges in Africa.
