Uganda Confirms 9 Cases of Omicron COVID-19 Variant

Uganda has been confirmed to be having nine new cases of the Omicron, a COVID-19 variant right
after it was first reported in South Africa this year 2021.

The tests were done by the Ministry of Health on 5th December 2021 and 19 cases were
discovered out of the 1, 994,268 tests conducted.

The breakdown of the new cases is 18 Alerts and contacts; Wakiso (9), Kampala (6) Oyam (3),
MOH reported. The Omicron variant was first identified in Botswana and South Africa and It has caused concern
among scientists and public health officials because of an unusually high number of mutations that have the potential to make the virus more transmittable and less susceptible to existing vaccines.

This wave is more deadly than the first wave that attacked the world and everyone must be
vigilant and take more precautions accordingly. The COVID-19 Omicron virus was first identified in Botswana and South Africa that became more toxic. Now in Uganda.

The symptoms for this new Covid-19 variant, Omicron include joint pain, headache, neck pain, upper back pain, pneumonia, general weakness and appetite.While differing from the original symptom,s of COVID-19, the variant doesn’t cause fever or cough thus making it hard to be detected by temperature measuring equipment.
